Fun to Write
In the Children’s Voices Theatre production
It’s Fun to Write, Michael Zerphy and Marv Klassen-Landis
present poems and stories written by elementary school students.
Throughout the performance, they weave together themes of trusting
one’s inner voice, overcoming fear, and getting started when
students say, “I don’t know what to write.” K-6
audiences double over laughing during “Wacky Monkeys”
and during “The Dentist,” a hilarious sketch reminiscent
of the golden age of silent movies. “Tiger” moves through
emotions of awe, fear, and empowerment. Combining rhyme, mime, and
a magical machine that always backfires, “I Made a Machine”
evokes cheers and laughter. Poems such as “Shy” and
“Moose Calf” explore emotions and nature. The performance
includes acting, mime, physical comedy, and audience participation.
The It’s Fun to Write study guide leads teachers
and students through follow-up discussion, writing, and theatre
activities.
In
addition to our 50-minute K-6 show, we also offer a shorter version
tailored for pre-K through grade 2 audiences.
Submit poems and stories
in advance, and we will include student writing from your school
in the performance!
Other Children’s Voices Theatre performances include Who
Am I? and Ketchup,
Riddles, and Wacky Monkeys.

“It was very empowering for our students to watch adults
validate the writing of children.... They were motivated to create
that very day.”
