Fun to Write | Who
Am I?

Who am I? What am I feeling? How do my emotions fit in with other
people and their feelings? The Children’s Voices Theatre production
Who Am I encourages K-6 students—through the voices
of their peers—to explore these questions. The performance
includes acting, mime, clowning, juggling, and audience participation.
Students lean forward as they intently watch a Chinese ribbon dance
interpretation of a fourth-grade student’s poem called “My
Sides.” They laugh uproariously at Michael and Marv’s
slapstick hijinks in “Inner Riddle.” They enjoy the
interaction of a father and son sharing breakfast in “Cheerios,”
and they ponder poems about shyness, anger, silliness, love, and
loneliness. While Who Am I is highly entertaining, it also helps
students to develop resiliency by learning to identify and share
feelings and make conscious choices. The Who Am I study guide provides
follow-up activities that include writing, performing, and discussion.
Help your students realize they can be—in the words of one
of the student poets featured in the show—“Proud to
Be Me.”
In
addition to our 50-minute K-6 show, we also offer a shorter version
tailored for pre-K through grade 2 audiences.
Submit poems and stories
in advance, and we will include student writing from your school
in the performance!
Other Children’s Voices Theatre performances include It’s
Fun to Write and Ketchup,
Riddles, and Wacky Monkeys.
"Humorous, lively, thoughtful, and inspirational! Michael
and Marv, with their many talents, made the emotions and stories
come alive. My students couldn't wait to get back to their own
writing!"
—Pat Reynolds, fourth grade teacher, Sharon Elementary School,
Sharon, Vermont
“Who Am I makes children more aware of their feelings
and shows that feelings can be expressed in many ways—using
humor, body movements, and music, as well as with words. It makes
sharing emotions more real and less “heavy” than simply
talking about them.”
—Megan Culp, Guidance Counselor, Hartland Elementary School,
Hartland, Vermont
